Leati Joseph Anoaʻi, widely recognized by his ring name Roman Reigns, was born on May 25, 1985. He is an accomplished American professional wrestler, actor, and former football player. Reigns has been a prominent figure in WWE since 2010, where he performs on the Raw brand, showcasing his talents on a part-time basis. His remarkable career is highlighted by a historic 1,316-day reign as WWE Universal Champion, the longest in the title's history and the fourth longest world title reign in WWE history.
Before his wrestling career, Reigns played college football at Georgia Tech and briefly joined the NFL, with stints at the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2007. He later played a full season in the Canadian Football League with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2008 before retiring from football. As a member of the renowned Anoaʻi wrestling family, he made his main roster debut in WWE in 2012 as part of the faction The Shield, alongside Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, capturing the WWE Tag Team Championship during their time together.
From 2014 to 2020, WWE positioned Reigns as a heroic character, aiming to establish him as the next face of the company. Despite winning multiple championships, including the WWE Championship three times and the Royal Rumble in 2015, this period was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics. Following a hiatus, Reigns returned with a new villainous persona in 2020, which garnered widespread acclaim. He reclaimed the Universal Championship and held both the Universal and WWE Championships simultaneously as the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion.
Reigns has headlined WWE's flagship event, WrestleMania, a record ten times and holds the joint-record for most eliminations in a Survivor Series match. He is recognized as WWE's 28th Triple Crown Champion and 17th Grand Slam Champion. His accolades include being ranked No. 1 in Pro Wrestling Illustrated's annual PWI 500 list in 2016 and 2022, and being named Wrestler of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 2021.
