Romela Begaj

Romela Begaj, born on November second, nineteen eighty-six, is a prominent Albanian weightlifter known for her remarkable achievements in the sport. She first gained international recognition at the 2008 European Weightlifting Championships, where she showcased her talent by securing a silver medal. That same year, she represented Albania at the Olympic Games in Beijing, finishing sixth in the under fifty-eight kilogram category.

Her career reached a significant milestone on November eleventh, two thousand fourteen, when she became the world champion in the Snatch style for the category up to sixty-three kilograms in Almaty. This victory marked her as the first Albanian woman to win a World Championship gold medal, lifting an impressive one hundred thirteen kilograms in the snatch.

However, her triumph was marred by controversy when she failed an anti-doping test related to this event, leading to the expungement of her results. In January two thousand nineteen, the International Weightlifting Federation imposed an eight-year ban on her due to the doping violation, casting a shadow over her illustrious career.
