Ronnie Peterson

Ronnie Peterson, affectionately known as "Superswede," was a remarkable Swedish racing driver who made his mark in Formula One from 1970 to 1978. His career was highlighted by two runner-up finishes in the World Drivers' Championship in 1971 and 1978, alongside an impressive tally of ten Grand Prix victories over nine seasons.

Peterson's journey in motor racing began in karting, where he quickly showcased his talent by winning several titles, including two Swedish championships in 1963 and 1964. His success in karting paved the way for a transition to Formula Three, where he triumphed in the Monaco Grand Prix support race in 1969 and subsequently clinched the FIA European Formula 3 Championship title.

In 1970, Peterson entered Formula One with the March factory team, where he enjoyed a fruitful three-year stint, achieving six podium finishes, particularly excelling during the 1971 season. Following his time at March, he joined the prestigious Team Lotus in 1973, partnering with reigning champion Emerson Fittipaldi. During his tenure with Lotus, Peterson secured seven victories and amassed a career-best fifty-two points in 1973.

After a challenging season in 1975, Peterson returned to March, where he celebrated his final victory at the 1976 Italian Grand Prix. He then spent the 1977 season with Tyrrell before rejoining Lotus in 1978 as the second driver to Mario Andretti. That year, he achieved two wins at the South African and Austrian Grands Prix, ultimately finishing second in the Drivers' Championship standings. Tragically, his career was cut short by a fatal accident during the first lap of the Italian Grand Prix at Monza.
