Rosa Galvez, born on June twenty-first, nineteen sixty-one, is a distinguished Canadian Senator representing Québec (Bedford). Appointed to the Senate on December sixth, two thousand sixteen, she has made significant contributions as an expert in pollution and its effects on human health.

In her academic career, Galvez served as a professor at Laval University, where she led the Department of Civil Engineering and Water Engineering. She established the university's environmental research laboratory, which has been pivotal in advancing research on critical environmental issues. Her notable work on the restoration of Lac Saint-Augustin earned her the nickname “La Dame du Lac” from Société Radio-Canada.

Galvez's research on the Lac-Mégantic rail disaster of two thousand thirteen, which had devastating impacts on air, water, and soil quality, has garnered international recognition. As a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec and a Fellow of both the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering and Engineers Canada, she is highly regarded in her field.

As chair of Canada's Senate Energy, Environment, and Natural Resources Committee, Galvez has effectively utilized evidence-based information to influence policy-making. She has proposed Bill S-243, the Climate-Aligned Finance Act, to foster dialogue on the finance sector's role in combating climate change. Additionally, she serves as President of the ParlAmericas Parliamentary Network on Climate Change and Sustainability (PNCCS) and has actively participated in COP25, COP26, and COP27.
