Rosa Taikon

Rosa Sofia Ingeborg Taikon, born on July 30, 1926, was a remarkable Swedish Romani silversmith, actor, dancer, and jewelry designer. Her artistic talents first gained public attention through her exquisite silversmithing, which showcased the rich cultural heritage of the Romani people.

Tragedy struck in 1962 when Taikon's brother was murdered, a pivotal moment that propelled her into activism. Alongside her sister Katarina, she became a prominent voice against antiziganism, advocating for the rights and recognition of the Romani community both in Sweden and internationally.

Throughout her life, Taikon's dedication to Romani rights earned her significant accolades, including the prestigious Olof Palme Prize in two thousand thirteen. Her legacy continues to inspire future generations to fight for equality and justice.
