Rosalía Arteaga

Rosalía Arteaga, born on December fifth, nineteen fifty-six, is a distinguished Ecuadorian politician, lawyer, and writer. She made history as the first female head of state in Ecuador, serving as the thirty-ninth president for a brief period of two days in February nineteen ninety-seven. Her presidency followed her role as the fortieth vice president under President Abdalá Bucaram, a position she held from nineteen ninety-six until Bucaram's removal in nineteen ninety-seven.

During a time of constitutional ambiguity regarding succession, Arteaga was sworn in as president but was peacefully replaced two days later by congressional leader Fabián Alarcón. Despite the brevity of her presidency, her ascent to this role marked a significant milestone in Ecuador's political landscape.

Following her short presidency, Arteaga continued to serve as vice president under Alarcón until March nineteen ninety-eight. Her political career has been characterized by her commitment to public service and her pioneering role as a woman in leadership.
