Rosalia Lombardo, a child from Palermo, was born on December thirteenth, nineteen eighteen. Tragically, she succumbed to pneumonia, a consequence of the Spanish flu, just one week shy of her second birthday.
In the wake of her untimely death, her father, Mario Lombardo, was overwhelmed with grief. In a heartfelt gesture to preserve the memory of his beloved daughter, he sought the expertise of Alfredo Salafia, a skilled embalmer.
Rosalia's remains were meticulously preserved, earning her the affectionate nickname 'Sleeping Beauty.' Her body became one of the last to be interred in the Capuchin catacombs of Palermo, a site known for its unique and haunting collection of mummified remains.
