Rose of Lima

Rose of Lima, born on April twentieth, fifteen eighty-six, emerged from a noble family in Lima, Peru, within the Spanish Empire. She became a prominent member of the Third Order of Saint Dominic, dedicating her life to severe penance and the care of the impoverished in her community through her own private efforts.

Renowned for her compassion and commitment, Rose of Lima is celebrated as the patron saint of embroidery, gardening, and the cultivation of blooming flowers. Her legacy is particularly significant as she was the first individual born in the Americas to be canonized as a saint, marking a pivotal moment in the history of the Catholic Church in the New World.

In addition to her local impact, Rose of Lima has been recognized as a co-patroness of the Philippines alongside Pudentiana. Although both saints were designated as second-class patronesses by Pope Pius XII in September nineteen forty-two, Rose remains the primary patroness of Peru and holds a special place in the hearts of the local people throughout Latin America.

Her image has even graced the highest-denomination banknote of Peru, a testament to her enduring influence and the reverence in which she is held. Rose of Lima's life continues to inspire countless individuals, embodying the spirit of charity and devotion.
