Rostislav I of Kiev

Rostislav I of Kiev, born in the year one thousand one hundred ten, was a prominent figure in the political landscape of Eastern Europe during the twelfth century. As the son of Mstislav I of Kiev and Christina Ingesdotter of Sweden, he inherited a legacy of leadership and governance that would shape his own reign.

His political career was marked by significant titles, including Prince of Smolensk from one thousand one hundred twenty-five to one thousand one hundred sixty, and a brief tenure as Prince of Novgorod in one thousand one hundred fifty-four. Rostislav's most notable role was as Grand Prince of Kiev, a position he held intermittently from one thousand one hundred fifty-four to one thousand one hundred sixty-seven.

Rostislav I is recognized as the founder of the Rostislavichi branch of the Rurikid princes in Smolensk, establishing a lineage that would continue to influence the region.
