Roy Makaay

Roy Makaay, born on March 9, 1975, is a distinguished Dutch football coach and former professional player, celebrated for his remarkable goal-scoring prowess. As a forward, he was particularly noted for his aerial skills and swift drives towards the net, showcasing an ability to score with either foot.

His professional journey commenced at Vitesse before he made a significant impact at Tenerife. In 1999, he joined Deportivo de La Coruña, where he played a pivotal role in securing the club's first La Liga title during his inaugural season. His tenure at Deportivo also saw him clinch the Copa del Rey in 2002 and earn the prestigious European Golden Boot the following year, thanks to an impressive tally of twenty-nine goals. To this day, he holds the record as the club's all-time leading goalscorer.

Makaay's career took another leap when he transferred to Bayern Munich for a then club record fee of eighteen point seventy-five million euros. There, he earned the nicknames 'Das Phantom' for his uncanny ability to score seemingly out of nowhere, and 'Tormaschine', reflecting his consistent goal-scoring capabilities. His time at Bayern was marked by success, including two consecutive Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal doubles.

In 2007, he returned to the Netherlands to play for Feyenoord. On the international stage, Makaay represented the Dutch national team from 1996 to 2005, scoring six goals in forty-three appearances. He participated in two UEFA European Championships and the 2008 Olympics, despite facing stiff competition for a spot on the national squad.
