One of Applegate's most notable roles was as Chief Petty Officer Manilow Crocker in the first season of the acclaimed television series seaQuest DSV. His film career included a memorable portrayal of Deputy Crawford in the comedy Stir Crazy, released in nineteen eighty-five. That same year, he showcased his range by appearing in two episodes of Diff'rent Strokes, where he played Donald Brown, a desperate father who kidnaps a child in a bid to replace his deceased son.
