Roza Otunbayeva

Roza Otunbayeva, born on August twenty-third, nineteen fifty, is a prominent Kyrgyzstani politician and diplomat. She made history by becoming the first female head of state in Central Asia when she served as the President of Kyrgyzstan from April seventh, two thousand ten, until December first, two thousand eleven. Her presidency followed her role as interim leader during the tumultuous period of the April Revolution in two thousand ten, which resulted in the ousting of President Kurmanbek Bakiyev.

Before ascending to the presidency, Otunbayeva held significant positions in the Kyrgyz government, including Minister of Foreign Affairs and head of the parliamentary caucus for the Social Democratic Party of Kyrgyzstan. Her tenure was marked by both achievements and controversies, including the persecution of human rights activist Azimzhan Askarov and the challenges surrounding the clashes in June two thousand ten.

In two thousand twenty-two, Otunbayeva took on a vital role on the international stage as the Special Representative for Afghanistan and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), under the leadership of United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.
