Ruben Amorim, born on January twenty-seventh, nineteen eighty-five, is a distinguished Portuguese football manager and former professional player. He is best known for his recent tenure as the manager of Premier League club Manchester United. As a midfielder, Amorim showcased his skills primarily with Belenenses and Benfica, where he signed in two thousand eight. During his time at Benfica, he achieved remarkable success, securing ten major titles, including three league championships, one Taça de Portugal, five Taças da Liga, and one Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira.
Amorim's international career saw him represent Portugal in two FIFA World Cups, earning a total of fourteen caps. After hanging up his boots in two thousand seventeen, he transitioned into coaching, starting at Casa Pia in two thousand eighteen. However, his stint there was short-lived due to a dispute with the Portuguese Football Federation. He then took the reins of Braga's reserve team, Braga B, before stepping up to manage the senior team in December two thousand nineteen, where he clinched the 2020 Taça da Liga.
In March two thousand twenty, Amorim was appointed as the head coach of Sporting CP, marking a significant milestone as he became the third most expensive manager in history. His inaugural season was nothing short of spectacular, leading the club to a double victory by winning both the Taça da Liga and the Primeira Liga, thus ending a nineteen-year title drought. His exceptional performance earned him the Primeira Liga's Manager of the Year award for the 2020–21 season.
Amorim continued to build on his success, guiding Sporting CP to another Primeira Liga title in the 2023–24 season, which led to him receiving the Manager of the Year accolade for the second time. In late two thousand twenty-four, he made the move to Manchester United, where he led the team to the Europa League final in two thousand twenty-five before parting ways with the club in January two thousand twenty-six.
