Rumen Radev

Rumen Radev, born on June eighteenth, nineteen sixty-three, in Dimitrovgrad, is a prominent Bulgarian politician and former military officer. He served as the president of Bulgaria from two thousand seventeen until his resignation in two thousand twenty-six, marking a significant milestone as the first president in Bulgaria's post-communist history to resign from office.

Before entering the political arena, Radev had a distinguished career in the Bulgarian Air Force, where he held the rank of major general and served as the higher commander. His military background provided him with a unique perspective that he brought to his presidency.

Radev's political journey began with his victory in the two thousand sixteen presidential election, where he ran as an independent candidate with the support of the Bulgarian Socialist Party. He triumphed over GERB candidate Tsetska Tsacheva in a closely contested second round. His popularity continued to grow, leading to a successful re-election in two thousand twenty-one, where he secured sixty-six percent of the vote in the second round.

Following his resignation in two thousand twenty-six, Radev founded the Progressive Bulgaria party, aiming to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections. His commitment to progressive policies and reform continues to shape the political landscape in Bulgaria.
