Rupi Kaur, an Indian-Canadian poet, illustrator, and author, was born on October fourth, nineteen ninety-two, in Punjab, India. She immigrated to Canada at a young age with her family, where she began her journey in poetry in two thousand nine. Kaur quickly gained recognition on Instagram, becoming a prominent figure in the world of poetry through her three acclaimed collections.
In March two thousand fifteen, Kaur made headlines when she posted a series of photographs on Instagram that depicted menstrual blood stains on her clothing and bedsheets. These images were part of a visual rhetoric course at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. Instagram's removal of the images prompted Kaur to write a viral critique, which significantly boosted her visibility and led to the reprinting of her self-published debut collection, Milk and Honey, by Andrews McMeel Publishing, achieving widespread commercial success.
