Rupiah Banda

Rupiah Banda, born on February thirteenth, nineteen thirty-seven, was a prominent Zambian politician and diplomat who made significant contributions to the country's political landscape. He served as the fourth president of Zambia from two thousand eight to two thousand eleven, succeeding Levy Mwanawasa. Banda's political journey began during the presidency of Kenneth Kaunda, where he held various diplomatic roles that shaped his career.

In October two thousand six, Banda was appointed vice-president by Mwanawasa. His ascent to the presidency came after Mwanawasa suffered a stroke in June two thousand eight and subsequently passed away later that year. As acting president, Banda faced the challenge of leading the nation during a transitional period.

During the two thousand eight elections, Banda narrowly secured victory against Michael Sata, the opposition leader of the Patriotic Front. His presidency was marked by efforts to stabilize the economy and address various national issues. However, in the two thousand eleven elections, he was defeated by Sata, marking the end of his presidential tenure.
