Rurik

Rurik, born in the year eight hundred thirty, was a prominent Varangian chieftain who played a pivotal role in the early history of the Rus'. His leadership began when he was invited to reign in Novgorod in the year eight hundred sixty-two, marking the start of a significant era in Eastern European history.

According to the Primary Chronicle, Rurik's legacy continued through his kinsman Oleg, who took on the role of regent for Rurik's infant son, Igor. This transition of power solidified Rurik's influence and established a lineage that would shape the region for centuries.

Traditionally recognized as the founder of the Rurik dynasty, Rurik's reign laid the groundwork for the ruling dynasty of Kievan Rus' and its various principalities. This dynasty would ultimately evolve into the Tsardom of Russia, enduring until the death of Feodor I in the year fifteen ninety-eight.

As a result of his foundational role, Rurik is often celebrated as the traditional founder of the Russian monarchy, a title that underscores his importance in the annals of Russian history.
