Ruslan Chagaev

Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Ruslan Chagaev

Ruslan Chagaev, born on October nineteenth, nineteen seventy-eight, is a distinguished former professional boxer from Uzbekistan. His boxing career spanned from two thousand one to two thousand sixteen, during which he made a significant mark in the heavyweight division. Chagaev was the first Asian boxer to secure a world heavyweight title from any of the four major sanctioning bodies, a remarkable achievement that set a precedent in the sport.

Chagaev's journey in boxing began with a successful amateur career, where he clinched gold medals at the two thousand one World Championships and the nineteen ninety-nine Asian Championships in the heavyweight and super-heavyweight categories, respectively. He briefly transitioned to professional boxing but returned to the amateur ranks in nineteen ninety-seven, with his professional bouts being classified as exhibitions by the AIBA.

In two thousand seven, Chagaev captured his first WBA heavyweight title by defeating the previously unbeaten Nikolai Valuev, successfully defending his title twice. However, injuries and the inability to grant Valuev a rematch led to the WBA stripping him of the title in two thousand nine. That same year, he faced his first professional defeat against unified heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko.

Chagaev reclaimed the WBA (Regular) heavyweight title in two thousand fourteen by overcoming Fres Oquendo and made one successful defense before losing the title to Lucas Browne in two thousand sixteen. Following Browne's failed drug test, Chagaev was reinstated as champion, but he was stripped of the title again later that year due to unpaid sanctioning fees. Ultimately, on July twenty-eighth, two thousand sixteen, he announced his retirement from boxing, citing ongoing eye injuries as the reason.
