Russell W. Hunt Jr., born around 1951, is a distinguished former basketball player who made a significant impact during his collegiate career at Furman University from 1970 to 1973. His time on the court was marked by exceptional performances, particularly during his sophomore and junior seasons, where he earned First Team All-Southern Conference (SoCon) honors.
In his junior year, Hunt's prowess was further recognized when he was named the Southern Conference Player of the Year. He led the SoCon in scoring, averaging an impressive twenty-two point five points per game, while also achieving a remarkable field goal percentage of fifty-two point six percent. His contributions to the team were pivotal, as he helped guide the Paladins to two NCAA tournaments in 1971 and 1973.
Throughout his career at Furman, Hunt accumulated a total of one thousand two hundred forty-eight points and was honored with five SoCon Player of the Week awards. His talent was undeniable, and he was selected by the Chicago Bulls in the 1973 NBA draft, being the tenth round pick at one hundred sixty-first overall. However, despite this recognition, he did not pursue a professional playing career.
