Rustichello da Pisa

Rustichello da Pisa, also known as Rusticiano, was an influential Italian romance writer who flourished in the late thirteenth century. His contributions to literature are particularly notable for their blend of cultural influences, as he wrote in the Franco-Italian language, which reflects the rich tapestry of medieval European storytelling.

One of Rustichello's most significant achievements was his collaboration with the famed explorer Marco Polo. While both were imprisoned in Genoa, Rustichello co-authored Polo's autobiography, 'The Travels of Marco Polo.' This work not only chronicles Polo's adventures but also serves as a vital historical document that offers insights into the world of the thirteenth century.

In addition to his work with Marco Polo, Rustichello penned the 'Roman de Roi Artus,' also known as the Compilation. This piece is recognized as the earliest known Arthurian romance by an Italian author, showcasing his ability to weave together elements of legend and narrative in a way that captivated audiences of his time.
