Rutka Laskier

Rutka Laskier, born on June twelfth, nineteen twenty-nine, was a remarkable Jewish Polish diarist and writer. Her poignant diary, written in nineteen forty-three, captures three harrowing months of her life during the Holocaust in Poland, providing a deeply personal perspective on the atrocities faced by her community.

Tragically, Rutka's life was cut short when she was murdered at the Auschwitz concentration camp in nineteen forty-three, at the tender age of fourteen. Despite her brief existence, her words have resonated through time, offering insight into the resilience of the human spirit amidst unimaginable suffering.

In early two thousand six, her manuscript was published in Polish, having been authenticated by Yad Vashem. The following year, translations in English and Hebrew made her story accessible to a broader audience, allowing her voice to echo alongside that of Anne Frank.

Rutka's diary has not only been a source of inspiration but has also been the subject of a BBC documentary released in two thousand nine and a musical titled 'Rutka' set to premiere in two thousand twenty-four, ensuring that her legacy continues to be remembered and honored.
