Ruy González de Clavijo

Ruy González de Clavijo, born in the year fourteen hundred, was a notable Castilian explorer, diplomat, writer, historian, and chronicler. His most significant contribution to history is his role as the ambassador of Henry III of Castile to the court of Timur, the formidable founder of the Timurid Empire. This diplomatic mission took place between the years fourteen hundred and three and fourteen hundred and five, marking a pivotal moment in the cultural exchanges between Europe and Asia.

During his journey, Clavijo meticulously documented his experiences, which would later serve as a vital historical record. His diary, believed to be based on detailed notes taken throughout his travels, was published in Spanish in the year fifteen eighty-two under the title 'Embajada a Tamorlán.' This work was subsequently translated into English in eighteen fifty-nine, titled 'Narrative of the Embassy of Ruy Gonzalez de Clavijo to the Court of Timour at Samarcand AD fourteen hundred and three to fourteen hundred and six.'
