Ryusuke Hamaguchi

Ryusuke Hamaguchi, born on December sixteenth, nineteen seventy-eight, is a prominent Japanese filmmaker known for his innovative storytelling and cinematic artistry. An alumnus of both the University of Tokyo and the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, Hamaguchi has carved a niche for himself in the international film scene.

His breakthrough came with the critically acclaimed film Happy Hour in two thousand fifteen, which set the stage for subsequent successes such as Asako I & II in two thousand eighteen and Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy in two thousand twenty-one. Each of these films premiered at prestigious film festivals, including Locarno, Cannes, and Berlin, showcasing his unique voice and vision.

In two thousand twenty-one, Hamaguchi achieved significant recognition with Drive My Car, which earned him nominations for Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay at the ninety-fourth Academy Awards.
