Sabine Braun

Sabine Braun, born on June 19, 1965, is a distinguished former German athlete renowned for her prowess in track and field, particularly in the heptathlon. Her athletic journey commenced in August 1983 at the European Junior Championships, where she showcased her talent by securing a commendable second place.

In 1984, Braun made her Olympic debut at the XXIII Summer Games in Los Angeles, finishing sixth. However, it was at the XXV Olympic Summer Games in Barcelona where she truly shone, earning a bronze medal. Competing against formidable athletes, she scored an impressive 6649 points, with remarkable performances including a time of 13.25 seconds in the hurdles and a jump of 1.94 meters.

Throughout her career, Braun achieved significant milestones at the World Championships, clinching gold medals in 1991 and 1997, alongside a silver in 1993. Her success continued at the European Championships, where she won gold in 1990 and 1994, and added a silver medal in 2002.

In addition to her international accolades, Braun was crowned the German champion in 1989 and triumphed at the prestigious competitions in Ratingen and Götzis multiple times. Notably, she set a German record of 6985 points at the Götzis meet in 1992, a record that remains unbroken.

Representing clubs such as LAV Düsseldorf, LG Bayer Leverkusen, and TV Wattenscheid, Braun stood at 1.74 meters tall and weighed sixty-two kilograms during her competitive years. She concluded her professional athletic career in the fall of 2002, leaving behind a legacy of excellence in the sport.
