Saeid Mollaei

Saeid Mollaei, born on January fifth, nineteen ninety-two, in Tehran, is a distinguished judoka who has made significant strides in the world of martial arts. Hailing from a family of ethnic Azerbaijanis originally from Khoy, Mollaei's journey in judo has been marked by both triumph and adversity.

In a controversial turn of events during the Tokyo 2019 World Championships, Iranian authorities pressured Mollaei to intentionally lose in the semi-finals to avoid a potential match against Israeli champion Sagi Muki. This incident not only highlighted the political tensions surrounding sports but also led Mollaei to seek refuge in Europe, where he moved in August 2019 with a two-year visa from Germany, fearing for his safety upon exposing the pressures he faced.

By December 2019, Mollaei had embraced a new chapter in his life by becoming a citizen of Mongolia. His dedication to his new home was evident when he honored Mongolia, the Mongol people, and Israel by dedicating his Olympic medal in 2020 to them. This act of solidarity showcased his commitment to transcending borders through sport.
