Sahra Wagenknecht

Sahra Wagenknecht, born on July sixteenth, nineteen sixty-nine, is a prominent German politician and economist known for her influential role in the political landscape. She served as a member of the Bundestag from two thousand nine until two thousand twenty-five, representing The Left party until two thousand twenty-three. During her tenure, she was a key figure, notably acting as the parliamentary co-chair from two thousand fifteen to two thousand nineteen.

Wagenknecht's political journey began in the early nineteen nineties with the PDS, and she became a leading member of The Left after its formation in two thousand seven. As the leader of the Communist Platform, she was recognized for her left-wing stance. Her economic perspectives evolved over time, culminating in her two thousand eleven publication, 'Freedom instead of Capitalism,' where she critiqued Germany's economic policies during the euro crisis through the lens of ordoliberalism.

In two thousand eighteen, she was instrumental in establishing Aufstehen, a left-wing movement that operates outside traditional party structures, drawing comparisons to the French La France Insoumise. Despite her controversial views on immigration, refugees, and gender-affirming care, she remained a significant voice in German media, particularly from two thousand twenty onward, even as her parliamentary activity diminished.

By two thousand twenty-one, Wagenknecht began contemplating the formation of her own political party due to ongoing conflicts within The Left. This vision materialized on October twenty-third, two thousand twenty-three, when she founded the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW). She ran as the Chancellor candidate for BSW in the two thousand twenty-five federal election, although the party narrowly missed the five percent threshold. Following the election, she announced her resignation as the leader of BSW in November two thousand twenty-five.
