Saido Berahino

Saido Berahino, born on August 4, 1993, is a Burundian professional footballer who has made a name for himself as a striker for the Burundi national team. His journey began when he fled his native Burundi as a child, seeking political asylum in Birmingham, where he credits football as a vital tool for his integration into English society.

At the age of eleven, Berahino joined West Bromwich Albion, where he developed his skills and turned professional seven years later. His breakthrough came during the 2013–14 season, highlighted by a memorable hat-trick against Newport County and a stunning winning goal at Old Trafford against Manchester United. In his second full season, he showcased his talent by scoring twenty goals in forty-five matches across all competitions.

However, his career faced challenges following a protracted transfer saga involving Tottenham Hotspur, which strained his relationships with the club's management. This turmoil affected his performance, leading to a disappointing season in 2015–16, where he managed only seven goals and endured a goal drought lasting nine hundred thirteen days.

In January 2017, Berahino made a move to Stoke City for a fee that could rise to fifteen million pounds. Unfortunately, Stoke was relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2017–18 season, and after a single season in the EFL Championship, he was released despite having three years left on his contract. He later played in the Belgian Pro League with Zulte Waregem and Charleroi before returning to England for a season with Sheffield Wednesday in League One in 2021.

On the international stage, Berahino represented England at various youth levels, contributing to the under-17 team's victory in the 2010 European Championship. He received his first senior call-up in November 2014 but did not play. In August 2018, he switched his allegiance to Burundi, making an immediate impact by scoring on his international debut in September and later captaining the team at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
