Saint Blaise

Saint Blaise, born in the year three hundred, was a distinguished physician and bishop of Sebastea, located in what is now modern Sivas, Turkey. His life was marked by a profound commitment to his faith and his community, leading him to become a revered figure in Christian history.

Venerated as a martyr, Blaise is celebrated across various Christian denominations, including the Catholic Church, Western Rite Orthodoxy, Eastern Orthodox, and Oriental Orthodox Churches. He is particularly known as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, a group of saints who are invoked for their intercessory powers.

As the patron saint of wool combers and those suffering from ear, nose, and throat illnesses, Blaise's legacy continues to resonate with many. His feast day is observed on the third of February in the Latin Church and on the eleventh of February in Eastern Churches.

The circumstances of his martyrdom are harrowing; according to the Acta Sanctorum, he endured severe torture, including beatings and the use of iron combs, before ultimately being beheaded. His unwavering faith in the face of such brutality has made him an enduring symbol of courage and devotion.
