Saint Meinhard

Saint Meinhard, born in the year one thousand one hundred thirty, was a prominent figure in the early Christian church as a German Augustinian canon regular. His dedication to the faith led him to become the first bishop of Livonia, a region that is now part of modern-day Latvia.

His life and contributions to the church are chronicled in the Livonian Chronicle of Henry, which highlights his role in spreading Christianity in the Baltic region during the Middle Ages. Meinhard's efforts were instrumental in establishing the foundations of the Church in Latvia, earning him the title of the apostle of the region.

After his passing, his remains were relocated to Riga in the year one thousand two hundred twenty-six, where they now rest in the historic Riga Cathedral, which has since become a Lutheran site. His legacy continues to be honored and remembered by many.
