Saku Koivu

Saku Koivu, born on November twenty-third, nineteen seventy-four, is a distinguished Finnish former professional ice hockey player renowned for his impactful career in the National Hockey League (NHL). He embarked on his NHL journey with the Montreal Canadiens during the nineteen ninety-five to ninety-six season, following a successful three-year stint with TPS in the Finnish SM-liiga.

Throughout his fourteen years with the Canadiens, Koivu made a significant mark as the team's captain for a remarkable ten seasons. This tenure not only established him as a pivotal figure in the franchise's history but also tied him with the legendary Jean Béliveau for the longest captaincy in the team's legacy. Notably, he was the first European player to hold the captaincy for the Canadiens, paving the way for future generations.

In addition to his accomplishments in the NHL, Koivu also led the Finnish national men's ice hockey team as captain from nineteen ninety-eight to two thousand ten. His leadership and skill on the ice earned him a place in the IIHF Hall of Fame in two thousand seventeen, solidifying his status as one of the sport's greats.
