Sali Berisha

Sali Berisha, born on October fifteenth, nineteen forty-four, is a prominent Albanian conservative politician and a retired cardiologist. He served as the President of Albania from nineteen ninety-two to nineteen ninety-seven and held the position of the thirty-second Prime Minister from two thousand five to two thousand thirteen. Berisha has been a significant figure in Albanian politics, having chaired the Democratic Party of Albania since two thousand twenty-two, a role he previously occupied from nineteen ninety to nineteen ninety-two and again from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand thirteen.

As the leader of the opposition in Albania, Berisha has faced numerous challenges throughout his political career. Under the Biden Administration, he was barred from entering the United States due to allegations of involvement in significant corruption and connections to organized crime, which were deemed a risk to public safety in Albania. This sanction was also echoed by the United Kingdom, and as of May two thousand twenty-five, he remains prohibited from entering the United States.

In September two thousand twenty-one, Berisha was expelled from the Democratic Party's Parliamentary Group by party chairman Lulzim Basha, a decision that ignited a nationwide movement led by Berisha to oust Basha from leadership. This internal conflict has created a notable rift within the party, dividing supporters between the two leaders.

On December thirtieth, two thousand twenty-three, Berisha was placed under house arrest due to alleged corruption during his tenure as Prime Minister. However, he was released following a court order on November twenty-seventh, two thousand twenty-four, marking another chapter in his tumultuous political journey.
