Sally Wyatt

Sally Wyatt, born on May twelfth, nineteen fifty-nine, is a distinguished sociologist and university teacher, currently serving as a professor of Digital Society Bachelor Course at Maastricht University. Her academic journey began in Canada, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in economics from McGill University in nineteen seventy-nine, followed by a master's degree in Economic Policy & Planning from Sussex University in nineteen eighty. She completed her PhD at Maastricht University in nineteen ninety-eight under the guidance of Wiebe Bijker.

Wyatt's research has significantly contributed to the understanding of technology's societal impact, particularly focusing on the perspectives of non-users. In an era when the internet was rapidly gaining popularity in the late nineteen nineties and early two-thousands, many assumed that everyone would eventually adopt new technologies. However, Wyatt was among the first to explore the experiences of those who either intentionally avoided the internet or ceased using it after an initial trial.

Her work extends beyond non-users to encompass themes such as technological determinism and the circulation of genetic data via the internet. Before her tenure in the Netherlands, Wyatt held positions at various esteemed institutions, including the Science Policy Research Unit (SPRU) at Sussex University, the Economic and Social Research Council, the Centre for Research into Innovation and Management at Brighton University, and the Department of Innovation Studies at the University of East London.
