Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Salvadore Cammarano

Salvadore Cammarano, born on March nineteenth, eighteen oh one, was a distinguished Italian librettist, composer, poet, and songwriter. He is perhaps best remembered for his collaboration with Gaetano Donizetti, particularly for penning the libretto of the renowned opera 'Lucia di Lammermoor' in eighteen thirty-five. This work solidified his reputation in the world of opera and showcased his talent for crafting compelling narratives through music.

In addition to 'Lucia di Lammermoor', Cammarano contributed to several other operas for Donizetti, including 'L'assedio di Calais' in eighteen thirty-six, 'Belisario' in eighteen thirty-six, 'Pia de' Tolomei' in eighteen thirty-seven, 'Roberto Devereux' in eighteen thirty-seven, 'Maria de Rudenz' in eighteen thirty-eight, 'Poliuto' in eighteen thirty-eight, and 'Maria di Rohan' in eighteen forty-three. His versatility extended to working with Giuseppe Persiani, for whom he wrote the libretto for 'Ines de Castro'.

His collaboration with Giuseppe Verdi further highlights his significant contributions to the operatic repertoire. Cammarano wrote the libretti for 'Alzira' in eighteen forty-five, 'La battaglia di Legnano' in eighteen forty-nine, and 'Luisa Miller' in eighteen forty-nine. Unfortunately, after his passing in July eighteen fifty-two, Verdi enlisted the help of Leone Emanuele Bardare to complete the libretto for 'Il trovatore' in eighteen fifty-three.

Before his untimely death, Cammarano began working on a libretto for a proposed adaptation of Shakespeare's 'King Lear', titled 'Re Lear', although he did not complete it. A detailed scenario of this work remains, showcasing his creative ambitions. Cammarano hailed from a family of artists; his father, Giuseppe, was a painter and set designer, and his son, Michele, followed in his footsteps as a painter.
