Salvatore Montagna, born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in 1971, was a prominent figure in organized crime, known for his role as an acting boss of the Bonanno crime family in New York City. Raised in Castellammare del Golfo, Sicily, Montagna's family immigrated to the United States in the mid-1980s when he was just fifteen years old, settling in the Bronx, New York.
Montagna quickly rose through the ranks of the Bonanno crime family, eventually becoming an acting caporegime. By two thousand four, he had assumed the role of acting boss during the absence of Vincent Basciano, solidifying his influence within the organization. His dual citizenship in Canada and Italy allowed him to navigate the complexities of organized crime across borders.
In two thousand nine, Montagna faced deportation from the United States back to Canada, where he became embroiled in a power struggle with the Rizzuto crime family in Montreal. Following the death of boss Nicolo Rizzuto in two thousand ten, Montagna sought to expand his control over the criminal landscape.
However, tensions escalated when he had a falling-out with Rizzuto associate Raynald Desjardins in two thousand eleven. Tragically, on November twenty-four of that year, Montagna's life was cut short when his body was discovered on the shore of Île Vaudry in the L'Assomption River, located in Charlemagne, Quebec. In December two thousand sixteen, Desjardins was sentenced to fourteen years in prison for his involvement in the murder plot against Montagna.
