Salwa Eid Naser, born on May 23, 1998, is a remarkable sprinter who has made her mark in the world of athletics, specializing in the 400 meter race. Originally from Nigeria, she represents Bahrain and has achieved significant milestones in her career, including being crowned the 2019 World Champion. With a stunning time of 48.14 seconds, she not only became the youngest-ever champion in the event but also the first woman from an Asian nation to win this title at a World Championships.
Her journey in competitive sprinting began early, as she secured the silver medal at the 2014 Youth Olympics and went on to become the 2015 World Youth champion. Naser's prowess continued to shine when she claimed her first senior medal, a gold, at the 2015 Military World Games. At just eighteen, she made the bold decision to skip the 2016 World U20 Championships to compete against the world's elite at the Rio Olympics, where she finished equal ninth in the semi-finals with a time of 50.88 seconds.
In addition to her individual successes, Naser has also excelled in relay events, contributing to the Bahraini mixed-gender 4 × 400 m relay team that won a bronze medal at the 2019 World Championships. Her accolades extend to multiple medals at the Asian Games and Asian Championships, showcasing her versatility and talent on the track.
As of December 2022, Naser is recognized as a two-time 400 m Diamond League champion and holds the eighth-fastest Asian results of all time, with numerous entries in the top ten and top twenty rankings. However, her career faced a setback when she served a competition ban from June 30, 2021, to February 2023 due to an anti-doping rule violation related to whereabouts failures.
