Samuel Benjamin Bankman-Fried, born on March 5, 1992, is an American entrepreneur who made headlines as the founder of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. At the height of his career, he was celebrated as a leading figure in the crypto world, with FTX boasting a global presence through more than one hundred thirty international affiliates. His remarkable rise in the financial sector saw him ranked as the forty-first richest American in the Forbes 400.

However, the narrative took a dramatic turn in November 2022 when signs of potential fraud began to emerge. This led to a rapid withdrawal of assets by depositors, ultimately resulting in the bankruptcy of FTX. The fallout from these events culminated in Bankman-Fried's arrest in the Bahamas on December 12, 2022, followed by his extradition to the United States.
