Sam Childers

Sam Childers, born in nineteen sixty-three, is a remarkable American known for his multifaceted roles as a writer, pastor, and philanthropist. Often referred to as the Machine Gun Preacher, Childers gained national attention following a compelling profile aired by Dateline NBC in two thousand five. This feature, presented by Keith Morrison and Tim Sandler, highlighted his courageous efforts in confronting Joseph Kony, the notorious leader of the Lord's Resistance Army.

With a heart dedicated to humanitarian efforts, Childers has devoted his life to rescuing children from the ravages of war in South Sudan. Alongside his wife, Lynn, he founded Angels of East Africa, which operates the Children's Village Orphanage in Nimule, South Sudan. This sanctuary currently provides care for approximately one hundred eighty-five children, offering them a safe haven amidst turmoil.

In addition to their work in South Sudan, Childers and his organization have established orphanages and homes in Uganda and Ethiopia, extending their reach to another one hundred sixty children. His unwavering commitment to social justice and child welfare was recognized in two thousand thirteen when he received the prestigious Mother Teresa Award for Social Justice.
