Sam Hinds

Sam Hinds, born on December twenty-seventh, nineteen forty-three, is a prominent Guyanese politician who served as Prime Minister of Guyana for an impressive duration from nineteen ninety-two to two thousand fifteen. His political journey began under the leadership of Cheddi Jagan, where he first assumed the role of Prime Minister following the People's Progressive Party's victory in the October nineteen ninety-two elections. Hinds' tenure was marked by significant political developments, including his brief presidency in nineteen ninety-seven after Jagan's passing.

During his time in office, Hinds was recognized for his contributions to the nation, receiving Guyana's highest national honor, the Order of Excellence, in two thousand eleven. His political career saw him reappointed as Prime Minister multiple times, including after the elections in two thousand six and two thousand eleven, showcasing his enduring influence within the People's Progressive Party.

Before entering politics, Hinds had a successful career in the bauxite industry, where he rose to the position of Vice President for Product Quality and Research and Development at the nationalized Alcan operation. His academic background as a licensed chemical engineer, having graduated from the University of New Brunswick, laid a strong foundation for his professional endeavors.

In addition to his political roles, Hinds has also served as the Guyanese Ambassador to the United States since July two thousand twenty-one, further extending his influence on the international stage. Notably, he is honored in the scientific name of a lizard species, Kaieteurosaurus hindsi, reflecting his lasting legacy in both politics and science.
