Personal Facts, Age, Height and Biography of Sam Hornish Jr.

Samuel Jon Hornish Jr., born on July 2, 1979, is a distinguished American semi-retired professional auto racing driver. His career began in the IndyCar Series, where he made his debut in the year 2000 with PDM Racing. Hornish quickly established himself as a formidable competitor, joining Panther Racing the following season and clinching eleven victories along with consecutive series championships in 2001 and 2002.

In 2004, Hornish transitioned to Team Penske, where he continued to excel, securing eight additional wins, including the prestigious Indianapolis 500 in 2006. His remarkable performance that year also earned him the series championship. By the time he departed the IndyCar Series after the 2007 season, he had set a record for the most career wins in the series, totaling nineteen, a record that would later be surpassed by Scott Dixon in 2009.

Hornish's foray into NASCAR began part-time in the Xfinity Series during the 2006 season, followed by a part-time stint in the Cup Series in 2007. His full-time commitment to the Cup Series in 2008 saw him face challenges, achieving eight top-ten finishes over his initial three seasons, with a best points finish of twenty-eighth in 2009. He returned to the Xfinity Series in 2011, where he not only won a race but also finished fourth in points the following year.

In 2012, Hornish stepped in for A. J. Allmendinger in Penske's No. 22 car, achieving a top-five finish. His subsequent return to the Nationwide Series was marked by another victory and an impressive tally of sixteen top-five and twenty-four top-ten finishes, culminating in a second-place points finish, just three points shy of the champion, Austin Dillon. Hornish's career continued with part-time engagements for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2014, where he secured one win and four top-five finishes, and a return to the Cup Series in 2015 with Richard Petty Motorsports, where he finished twenty-sixth in points.

In the latter part of his career, Hornish returned to the Xfinity Series part-time in 2016, winning a race for JGR and consistently finishing sixth or better in all three races he entered for Richard Childress Racing. His final competitive appearances came in 2017, when he returned to Penske's Xfinity program for a three-race schedule in the No. 22 Ford Mustang.
