Sammie Henson, born in St. Louis, Missouri, is a celebrated amateur wrestler who has made significant contributions to the sport. His remarkable career includes winning a gold medal in freestyle wrestling for the USA at the 1998 FILA Wrestling World Championships in Tehran, Iran. This achievement marked him as one of the top competitors in his field.

In addition to his world championship title, Henson showcased his skills on the Olympic stage, earning a silver medal in the freestyle fifty-four kilogram category at the 2000 Summer Olympics held in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. His journey continued as he competed at the 2006 FILA Wrestling World Championships in Guangzhou, China, where he secured a bronze medal at the age of thirty-six.

Henson's influence extends beyond his personal achievements; he was honored as USA Wrestling's Man of the Year in nineteen ninety-eight.
