Samuel Bodman

Samuel Bodman, born on November 26, 1938, is a distinguished American engineer, businessman, and politician. He is best known for his role as the 11th United States Secretary of Energy during the George W. Bush administration, a position he held from 2005 to 2009. His extensive career in public service and business has made a significant impact on the energy sector and government policy.

Before his appointment as Energy Secretary, Bodman served in various high-profile roles, including Deputy Secretary of the Treasury and Deputy Secretary of Commerce. His expertise in engineering and business provided a solid foundation for his leadership in these critical positions, where he was responsible for overseeing significant financial and commercial initiatives.

In December 2004, Bodman was nominated to succeed Spencer Abraham as Energy Secretary. He was confirmed unanimously by the United States Senate on January 31, 2005. During his tenure, he managed a budget exceeding twenty-three billion dollars and oversaw more than one hundred thousand federal and contractor employees, addressing key security issues at the Los Alamos National Laboratory.
