Samuel William Jacobs

Samuel William Jacobs, born on May sixth, eighteen seventy-one, was a prominent Canadian lawyer and politician who made significant contributions to the Canadian Jewish community. His career in public service was marked by a commitment to representation and advocacy, particularly during a time when Jewish voices were often underrepresented in politics.

Jacobs was first elected as a Member of Parliament in the nineteen seventeen federal election, representing the Montreal riding of George-Étienne Cartier, which later became known simply as Cartier. As a member of the Laurier Liberals, he dedicated his efforts to the advancement of his constituents and the broader Canadian society.

Throughout his tenure, Jacobs held the distinction of being the only Jewish MP in the House of Commons, a role that underscored his importance not only as a politician but also as a leader within the Jewish community in Canada.
