Sandra Kalniete, born on December twenty-second, nineteen fifty-two, is a distinguished Latvian politician, author, and diplomat. Her career in public service has been marked by significant roles, including her tenure as Latvia's Minister for Foreign Affairs from two thousand two to two thousand four, and as the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries in two thousand four.

Since two thousand nine, Kalniete has represented the European People's Party as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). In this capacity, she actively participates in the Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET) and serves as a substitute member on the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development (AGRI). Her commitment extends to international relations, where she is involved with the Delegation for relations with Southeast Asia and ASEAN, as well as the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee and the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

Following her reelection in two thousand fourteen, she ascended to the role of Vice-Chair of the Group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament. Additionally, Kalniete chairs the Reconciliation of European Histories Group, an all-party initiative aimed at fostering dialogue and understanding among European nations, comprising forty MEPs from various political backgrounds.

Her diplomatic career is extensive, having served as Latvia's Ambassador to the United Nations from nineteen ninety-three to nineteen ninety-seven, to France from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand, and to UNESCO from two thousand to two thousand two. Fluent in Latvian, English, French, and Russian, Kalniete's linguistic skills complement her diplomatic endeavors.
