Sandy Frances Duncan

Sandy Frances Duncan, born in Vancouver in nineteen forty-two, is a distinguished Canadian author known for her captivating novels, mysteries, and short stories. With a rich literary career, she has made significant contributions to the world of literature, particularly in children's writing.

Her novel, Gold Rush Orphan, garnered critical acclaim and was a finalist for the prestigious Sheila A. Egoff Children's Literature Prize in two thousand five. In addition to her novels, Duncan has enriched various anthologies with her short fiction, including Dropped Threads: What We Aren't Told and Celebrating Canadian Women, as well as contributing to notable magazines such as Makara, Northern Journey, and Canadian Fiction.

Before embracing her passion for writing full-time in nineteen seventy-three, Duncan pursued a career in psychology. She earned both her bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of British Columbia and worked at several institutions, including Woodlands School in New Westminster, the Burnaby Mental Health Center, and the Metropolitan Health Department in Vancouver.
