Santosh Yadav, born on October tenth, nineteen sixty-seven, is a remarkable Indian mountaineer and police officer. She has etched her name in history as the first woman globally to conquer Mount Everest not once, but twice. Her extraordinary achievements include being the first woman to successfully ascend Everest from the challenging Kangshung Face.
From a young age, Santosh was a trailblazer, challenging traditional societal norms, particularly those concerning women's attire. Her determination to forge her own path is encapsulated in her powerful words: 'from the very beginning I was quite determined that if I chose a correct and rational path, the others around me had to change, not me.'
Her first ascent of Everest took place in May nineteen ninety-two, followed by a second successful climb in May nineteen ninety-three as part of an Indo-Nepalese team. During her inaugural expedition, she demonstrated remarkable courage and compassion by saving the life of fellow climber Mohan Singh, sharing her oxygen with him in a moment of dire need.
Despite her heroic efforts, not all attempts were successful; she also tried to assist Saranjith, a fellow mountaineer who was gravely injured at the South Col, but unfortunately, her efforts were in vain. Santosh Yadav's legacy is not just about her climbing feats but also her unwavering spirit and commitment to helping others.
