Sara Carrigan, born on September seventh, nineteen eighty, is a distinguished professional cyclist hailing from Australia. She embarked on her cycling journey in nineteen ninety-six at the tender age of fifteen. Currently, she rides for the Belgian Lotto–Belisol Ladiesteam, having previously been a member of the Dutch professional cycling team, Van Bemmelen – AA Drink.
Residing in Nerang, Queensland, Carrigan is an active member of the Gold Coast Cats cycling club. She completed her secondary education at Somerset College in nineteen ninety-eight and furthered her studies at Griffith University, showcasing her commitment to both sport and education.
Among her numerous accolades, Carrigan's crowning achievement came during the 2004 Summer Olympics, where she clinched the gold medal in the Women's Road race. In a thrilling finish, she joined forces with fellow Australian cyclist Oenone Wood, ultimately breaking away to secure her victory, with only Judith Arndt of Germany in pursuit.
Her contributions to cycling have not gone unnoticed; she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal (OAM) in the two thousand five Australia Day Honours List and was named Australian Female Road Cyclist of the Year in two thousand two, two thousand three, and two thousand four.
