Sara Coleridge

Sara Coleridge, born on December twenty-third, eighteen hundred and two, was a distinguished English writer and translator, renowned for her contributions to literature. As the third child and only daughter of the celebrated poet Samuel Taylor Coleridge and his wife Sara Fricker, she was immersed in a rich literary environment from an early age.

Her literary journey began with translations from Latin and medieval French, showcasing her linguistic prowess. Following her marriage, she embraced motherhood and penned several instructive verses for her children. These charming poems were later compiled and published in eighteen thirty-four as Pretty Lessons in Verse for Good Children, which featured beloved lines such as, "January brings the snow, makes our feet and fingers glow."

In eighteen thirty-seven, Sara unveiled her most ambitious work, Phantasmion, A Fairy Tale, a narrative that initially took shape as a story for her son Herbert. This enchanting tale marked a significant milestone in her literary career, reflecting her imaginative spirit and dedication to storytelling.
