Sarah McBride

Sarah McBride, born on August ninth, nineteen ninety, is a prominent American politician and LGBTQ rights activist. She currently serves as the U.S. representative for Delaware's at-large congressional district, making history as the nation's highest-ranking openly transgender elected official and the first openly transgender member of the United States Congress.

Before her congressional role, McBride represented Delaware's first senate district from January twenty twenty-one to January twenty twenty-five. Her political journey began as the national press secretary for the Human Rights Campaign from two thousand sixteen to two thousand twenty-one, where she played a crucial role in advocating for LGBTQ rights.

In two thousand twenty, McBride made headlines as the first openly transgender person elected as a state senator in the United States. Her advocacy efforts were instrumental in the successful passage of legislation in Delaware that banned discrimination based on gender identity in employment, housing, insurance, and public accommodations.

McBride's influence extends beyond legislation; she was a groundbreaking speaker at the Democratic National Convention in July two thousand sixteen, becoming the first openly transgender person to address a major party convention in American history. In two thousand eighteen, she published her memoir, Tomorrow Will Be Different: Love, Loss, and the Fight for Trans Equality, which features a foreword by Joe Biden, who has acknowledged her impact on his views regarding transgender issues.
