Sarah Sjöström, born on August 17, 1993, is a renowned Swedish swimmer celebrated for her exceptional prowess in sprint freestyle and butterfly events. With a remarkable career, she has established herself as one of the most decorated swimmers in history, amassing an impressive total of twenty-three individual medals at long course World Championships, the highest of any swimmer to date.
In 2019, Sjöström made history by becoming the first female swimmer to win five individual medals at a single FINA World Aquatics Championships. Her achievements continued to soar as she became the first swimmer to accumulate over one thousand most valuable player points in the International Swimming League in 2021. By 2022, she had also set a record as the first swimmer from any country to win a total of twenty-eight medals at the LEN European Aquatics Championships.
As a world record holder in the 50 metre freestyle, 100 metre freestyle, and 50 metre butterfly (all long course), Sjöström has left an indelible mark on the sport.
