Satoshi Tajiri

Satoshi Tajiri, born on August 28, 1965, is a renowned Japanese video game designer and director, best known as the creator of the iconic Pokémon franchise. His journey into the world of gaming began in his youth, where he developed a passion for arcade games. This enthusiasm led him to co-found a fanzine called Game Freak with Ken Sugimori, which eventually evolved into a successful video game development company.

The inspiration for Pokémon came from Tajiri's childhood hobby of insect collecting, combined with the innovative idea of linking two Game Boys via a cable. This concept blossomed into the creation of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, a project that took six years to complete. The release of these games not only marked the beginning of a multibillion-dollar franchise but also revitalized Nintendo's handheld gaming market.

Throughout his career, Tajiri has played a pivotal role in the Pokémon series, serving as director until the development of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. He then transitioned to the role of executive producer, a position he continues to hold today. In addition to his work on Pokémon, Tajiri has contributed to various other projects at Game Freak, showcasing his versatility and passion for the gaming industry.
